Like everything else about the man, a Pete Rose signed baseball may not carry quite the same mystique that it once did … but it’s still a pretty cool collectible if you’re a Rose fan at all.

Part of the appeal the big, looping letters and bold strokes that make Rose’s signature one of the most recognizable (and display-worthy) in the game.

Another part of the appeal is Rose’s accomplishments on the field, which of course include becoming the game’s all-time hit leader — The Hit King — in 1985, when he took down Ty Cobb’s record.

These days, you also have to factor in the never-ending debate about whether Rose will ever make the Hall of Fame, and whether he should.

If you’re in the market for a Pete Rose autographed baseball, though, the good news is that the man has been a signing machine over the last 50 years or so, so they’re not exactly tough to come by.

You can usually find balls that have been authenticated by PSA/DNA on eBay for under $100 — often well under (affiliate link). And sometimes, you can even find an extra bit added to the inscription for that price — something like “Hit King” or “Sorry I shot J.F.K.” (seriously).

Other good places to find a Pete Rose signed baseball are on Amazon, as in the listing below, or on SportsMemorabilia.com, which offers up specimens like the one shown above.

Of course, Pete is still active on the autograph circuit (or was, before COVID-19) and probably will be until he makes the Cooperstown cut or … something else happens.

If you like seeing your autograph generated in person, that’s the way to go, especially since you get to meet a baseball legend in the process (if you consider Rose to be meet-worthy, that is).

And, though there are plenty of Rose autos to go around, there are some counterfeits out there, so do your homework. The best bets for avoiding a fake are to get the thing in person, or to buy a certified ball (PSA/DNA, Steiner Sports, Mounted Memories, JSA, etc.).

Top-end balls, or ones with some special attribute, like a lengthy inscription or the Hall of Fame insignia, will command a premium, of course.

If you do buy a Rose signed ball, or any other autographed ball, make sure to store and display it properly to make it last for the long haul — no direct sunlight, low light overall, cool and dry environs, etc.

PSA has some general guidelines on how to keep your Pete Rose signed baseball looking good for a long, long time.
