Q: What Is the On-Base Percentage Formula in Baseball?

On-Base Percentage, or OBP, is a measure of a batter’s efficiency in getting on base during his plate appearances. The on-base percentage formula is as follows:

On-Base Percentage (OBP) = (hits + walks + hit-by-pitch)/(at-bats + walks + hit-by-pitch + sacrifice flies)

Brooklyn Dodgers executive Branch Rickey came up with OBP in the 1940s or 1950s.
