Carlos Correa rookie cards burst on the scene in the summer of 2015, about the same time the Astros phenom was graduating from the minors to Minute Maid Park.

Correa came with plenty of hype built in, courtesy of an offensive profile that included a great batting eye, burgeoning power, and 20-steal speed, not to mention a growing reputation as a topnotch shortstop in the field.

All of that and he was still a few months shy of his 21st birthday when he made his major league debut on June 8.

And, though Correa had only enough time to left in the season to see action in 99 games for those 2015 Astros, that was plenty of runway for him to work his magic: .279, 22 home runs, 68 RBI, 14 stolen bases.

That line helped him edge Francisco Lindor for the American League Rookie of the Year award and sent collectors off in search of his rookie cards — Topps, Bowman, Bowman’s Best, Panini, Topps Update … 10 or more different RCs in all.

The following seasons did little to quell the interest in Correa’s cards, as he became a mainstay on an outstanding Astros club that made it to the World Series three times between his rookie campaign and 2021, winning a title in 2017.

Along the way, Correa continued to show 20+ homer pop while continuing to improve his work in the field to the point that he won his first Gold Glove in 2021 … just in time for his first foray into free agency.

And, speaking of FA, Correa’s trip to the open market had long been anticipated, further fueling buzz around the potential future Hall of Famer and driving his cards to new heights as end of his Houston tenure neared.

Then, after waiting through the lockout, Correa surprisingly ended up with the small-market Minnesota Twins on a three-year deal in March of 2022, just weeks before the regular season was (finally!) set to begin. Suddenly, there was a whole new city full of fans who couldn’t wait to see Correa line up with hometown favorite Byron Buxton … and to nab baseball cards featuring both young stars.

Indeed, the Correa hype shows no signs of slowing down, and his cards remain among the most popular in the hobby.
