Bryce Harper rookie cards have been making waves since he was still in high school.

Say what, you say?

Well, it’s true … at least, sorta.

See, Harper was one of the most ballyhooed high-schoolers ever back in the 2000s, and he made the 16-and-under squad of Team USA, which led to his inclusion in the 2008-09 Upper Deck USA Baseball set (at #47).

By the end of 2009, Harper had cut his prep career short by attaining his GED, making him eligible for the June 2010 MLB Draft. There, the Washington Nationals would make the 17-year-old the top overall pick in the nation, and comparisons to LeBron James began in earnest.

Any collector who didn’t know about that early Harper card found out in a hurry, and a slew of pre-rookies and prospect cards followed in 2010 and 2011, from Bowman, Topps, Upper Deck, and other brands.

In the meantime, Harper made short work of the Nats’ minor league system, debuting in the bigs on April 28, 2012, after barely more than a full season combined at the A, AA, and AAA levels.

That summer, Bam-Bam hit .270 with 22 home runs and 18 stolen bases while scoring 98 times and garnering his first All-Star selection. For his efforts, the teenager (19) was rewarded with the National League Rookie of the Year Award.

That showing solidified Harper’s status as a budding hobby icon, and his official rookie cards debuted in the 2012 sets to much fanfare.

The ensuing years were a bit up-and-down on the field for Harper, with an otherworldly MVP season in 2015 surrounded by mere star-level (or All-Star-level) showings that had pundits doubting his bona fides as a legitimate eventual Hall of Famer.

And, when the Nationals won the 2019 World Series the season after Harper departed to sign a huge free agent contract with the Philadelphia Phillies, detractors used that juxtaposition as “proof” that he wasn’t all that valuable.

After the general strangeness of the pandemic-shortened 2020 season, though, Harper stormed back to win his second N.L. MVP Award in 2021, keeping the Phils’ playoff hopes alive most of the season on the strength of his .309/35 HR/84 RBI showing.

And, suddenly, whatever softness the market may have heaped on his cards evaporated, and collectors started treating Harper like a Hall of Famer again.

Today, Bryce Harper rookie cards are among the hottest in the hobby, and they show no signs of slowing down, as evidenced by the following list of his most watched RCs (check back often, too, as this list is continually updated).
