I remember participating in those kinds of games, as well as grab bags, at shows in the 1980s and 1990s. They were a lot of fun. I think they went by the wayside because of stricter gambling laws (or their enforcement), but opening any kind of pack is a game of chance in its own right!

When we had Festival Days in our old hometown, he would set up a booth and sell cards. He also set up a game of chance where the roll of two dice determined what kind of prize you received. Don’t remember how much he charged per roll, but he put the best prizes on the hardest numbers to roll — after extensive study of the odds and rolling the dice many times himself.

It was fun, and you got a little collectible for yourself.
