Very informative. As a Minnesotan, I can attest to much of what you noted. Growing up and going to card shops and shows regularly, I rarely saw these cards around that often. About 5 or 6 years ago, I bought a small box of these 7-11 cards for a few bucks from someone selling cards in their garage. Most of the cards were in NM-MT condition. I then bought another box of them for almost nothing a couple months later (again in someone's garage). So I ended up with around 150 of these cards from these sales including about a half dozen Puckett cards. Most Minnesotans don't even realize these cards are relatively rare or have much value. I would argue that they are cleaner, brighter and in many ways more attractive than the Topps, Fleer or Donruss sets of 1985. The card stock is decent. They haven't discolored even though they are white bordered and white backed. Most of the cards are action shots which is 'rare' in the 1980s!
