Agreed. As great as the Jackson card was, that how bitterly disappointed I was in the Steve Garvey card. It was not 1980 edition I can tell you that. But at least it did not include a catcher and an umpire in the shot.

I got my ’83 O-Pee-Chee Reggie Jackson card in the mail today. It brings me joy just to hold it and look at it. With the colorful out of focus dabs of fans in the background, it’s like a watercolor painting. Your perspectives in this article really kindled a new interest in the 83 cards for me.

Yum yum. My dad ate some 1978 OPC gum in about the mid-1980s and lived to tell about it. I’m sure it would still be fine today.

I kept thinking about this post and was inspired to pick up an opc version of this card. You make a good point that it must be a particularly good card if topps put it on the wax box. And the whole sunshine thing you wrote about was nice.

Damaso was a pretty underrated player, too. He had a couple of really good seasons for the Blue Jays in the early-to-mid 1980s.

My favorite card from the 1983 Topps/O-Pee-Chee series is the ’83 Damaso Garcia. It looks like when the picture was taken it was a refreshingly cool day and the dark color and clumping of the dirt around second base suggests a recent rainfall. Plus, blue is a calming color.
